Trowbridge shocked Western League Premier Division Devizes Town in this exciting wind-swept Witshire Senior Cup tie. With a strong wind in their favour, Trowbridge attacked straight from the kick off, a cross from Gavin Eyre headed just wide by Dave Mitchell. The first goal came after 7 minutes. Trowbridge goalkeeper Adam Sheppard with a drop kick that travelled the length of the pitch, Jez Hare misjudged the bounce and Sheppard became an unexpected goalscorer. The lead was doubled just one minute later, Ricky Trott gaining possession in midfield and striking a low shot from 30 yards. Devizes got back into the game 5 minutes before the break, Dave Hopkins heading home a corner. In the second half Devizes pushed forward and looked the better side, looking for the equaliser. A good chance was missed on the hour when a forward ran onto a long clearance but the shot was just wide of the right hand post. Sheppard also pushed a shot for a corner in the 72nd minute. Despite this pressure, Trowbridge looked dangerous on the break, attacking on both wings through Ricky Hulbert and Gavin Eyre. Having defended their lead well, Trowbridge nearly increased their lead with two chances in the last ten minutes. Dave Mitchell crossed for Ricky Hulbert to head toward goal but Hare made a brilliant stop to force a corner. Shortly afterwards, Hulbert was unlucky again when he hit a post from close range after a good ball in from Andy Bloodworth. This was David and Goliath cup football at it's best and a fine win for Wiltshire League, Trowbridge.
